AI Trainers FAQ

DataAnnotation application wait time: what to expect

Home AI Training Platforms
Share on WhatsappShare on LinkedInShare on RedditShare on GPT

The DataAnnotation application wait time, as its own FAQ states it, is a few days. The FAQ says applicants typically get an email within a few days of finishing the Starter Assessment. If you hear nothing, the FAQ says your application is either still under review or was not accepted, and DataAnnotation does not publish a longer timeline.

The Starter Assessment is a one-attempt test that DataAnnotation uses as its application. You take it once, on the track you choose, and the result decides whether you get access to paid projects.

This guide suits you if you finished the DataAnnotation Starter Assessment and are waiting for an email. It is not for you if you have not applied yet, because our DataAnnotation review covers whether the platform fits you first.

Checked: 18 Oct 2026. AI Trainers FAQ is independent. Platform rules change often, so check DataAnnotation’s own FAQ before you act.

TL;DR

  • DataAnnotation’s FAQ says you typically hear within a few days of finishing the Starter Assessment.
  • No reply can mean your application is still under review or was not accepted.
  • DataAnnotation says it cannot reply to every applicant, so silence is not a bug.
  • You get one attempt at the Starter Assessment, with no retakes.
  • DataAnnotation reviews answers for thoroughness and accuracy, and not for speed.
  • Apply to other platforms while you wait, because DataAnnotation publishes no deadline.

Title card: what DataAnnotation says about the wait.

What DataAnnotation states and what it does not

Start by separating the official lines from the guesses you read online, because only the official ones tell you what to expect.

QuestionWhat the FAQ saysWhat it does not say
How long is the wait? You typically get an email within a few daysAny upper limit
What does silence mean?Still under review, or not acceptedWhich of the two applies to you
Can I retake the test? No, there is one attemptAny reapply rule
Will support reply? It cannot reply to every applicantA support time

Read the table as a set of limits. The FAQ gives a usual time, and not a promise, so a longer wait is possible. Stories online of waits of several weeks or months are single reports, and DataAnnotation does not confirm them.

How long does DataAnnotation take to review an application?

Usually a few days, according to DataAnnotation’s FAQ. It says workers typically receive an approval email within a few days of finishing the Starter Assessment, and that passing gives immediate access to the platform. The FAQ also says it reviews for thoroughness and accuracy rather than speed, so careful answers matter more than a fast finish.

What does it mean if you hear nothing?

DataAnnotation’s FAQ says that if you have not heard back or received any work, your application is likely still under review or was not accepted. It adds that the team contacts you if you pass and has work that matches your skills. You cannot tell the two cases apart from outside, so plan for both.

A plan for the DataAnnotation application wait time

Use the wait well, because DataAnnotation gives you nothing to do until it decides. Work through these five steps in order.

  1. Note the date you submitted the Starter Assessment, so you know how long you have really waited.
  2. Check your email and spam folder every two days, because the decision arrives by email.
  3. Keep your PayPal email ready, because DataAnnotation pays through PayPal to the address you give it.
  4. Apply to one or two other platforms, because one application is a narrow bet. Our list of DataAnnotation alternatives is a place to start.
  5. Practise the skills the test checked, such as fact-checking and clear written reasons, so your next application on any platform is stronger.

Example (fictional): A retired teacher submits the assessment on a Monday and hears nothing by the next Friday. He applies to two other platforms, checks his spam folder twice a week and spends an hour on fact-checking practice. The decision email arrives in his inbox the next week.

He kept other options open and did not email support, because the FAQ already says it cannot reply to every applicant.

Should you contact DataAnnotation support?

Usually not about the wait. DataAnnotation’s FAQ says that, given the number of applications, it cannot reply to every applicant directly. A message asking about your result is unlikely to speed it up. Contact support only for a real account problem, such as an identity check that will not load, and keep the message short.

Warning: ignore anyone who offers to speed up your DataAnnotation review for a fee. DataAnnotation’s FAQ says it never asks you for money, so a paid shortcut is a scam.

Set one reminder today

Write down the date you submitted, and set one reminder to check your email and spam folder every two days. Then pick one other platform from our list and start that application this week.

DataAnnotation says most decisions arrive within a few days, so a short wait with a backup plan in place costs you very little.

Can I retake the DataAnnotation Starter Assessment?

No. DataAnnotation's FAQ says you can take the Starter Assessment only once, with no retakes or second chances. Read the instructions carefully and review your answers before you submit. Our guide to AI trainer skills covers the reasoning and writing habits that help on a one-attempt test like this one.

Does a fast finish help my application?

No. DataAnnotation's FAQ says it reviews submissions for thoroughness and accuracy rather than speed, and that successful applicants spend more time on thorough answers. Most Starter Assessments take about an hour, and specialist ones can take one to two hours, so give yourself that time in one sitting.

Will DataAnnotation tell me if I failed?

Not always. The FAQ says the team contacts you if your assessment passes review and it has work that matches your skills. It does not promise a rejection email, so a long silence may be the only answer you get. Keep applying elsewhere so your plans do not depend on one reply.

Does passing mean I will get work straight away?

Not necessarily. DataAnnotation says passing gives you access to the platform, and that work depends on demand for your skills and on your past performance. Its FAQ says strong work leads to more projects, so treat your first tasks as part of the review and take them seriously.
